These maybe old but very reliable, one all fly anglers should have in their box.
To fish an Ace of Spades fly, retrieve it slowly and deep with intermittent pauses, allowing the hackle to move naturally, mimicking the movement of a small baitfish; this pattern is most effective when fished in still water conditions, often near the margins of shallow water, and is best used with a slow, steady retrieve with occasional pauses to trigger strikes.
