Daddy longlegs flies
- Use a floating fly line and tapered leader
- Cast out and let the flies sit on the surface for 10–15 seconds
- Try flicking your rod tip up to make the fly duck under the surface
- If a trout swirls but doesn't take, lift your rod tip high to pull the fly underwater
- Fish in wooded sections of rivers on windy days
- Use a Popper Hopper or Booby Hopper on the top dropper
- Use two flies, with the largest on the point
When to use Daddy long legs flies
- When crane flies are abundant in late summer and autumn
- When few fish are rising and little hatching
- On windy days when fish are opportunistic feeders
