Dries are usually always an imitation of natural flies, fished singly on a floating line with a tapered leader for better turnover and presentation. Considered by most game anglers to be the ultimate challenge in deceiving a fish to take. Many dries benefit from being greased before use with floatant such as Gink etc. with the exception of CDC and foam bodied varieties. Different patterns are used to coincide with the natural hatches throughout the year e.g. Mayflies mid June, Caenis July to September, with Dark Olives hatching most of the year. Most anglers will have their own theory on what fishes best at any time.
