Typically fished loch style it can be used anywhere on the leader, although most often it is used as a point fly.
The butcher is one of the most well-known flies and dates back to the nineteenth century. Usually accredited to a Mr Jewhurst and a Mr Moon (a butcher by trade) from Tunbridge Wells.
